New Zealand Viognier on world stage

Gisborne Winegrowers in conjunction with Corbans Viticulture have put together a top line up of International and New Zealand speakers for the regions first formal Viognier workshop that is looking to attract New Zealand grapegrowers, winemakers and Viognier enthusiasts alike.
The workshop to be held on the Saturday June 9, in Gisborne will include three tastings and a top line-up of international Viognier’s- Guigal Condrieu 2005, ‘La Doraine’ 05, Yalumba Virgilius 05, Yalumba Botrytis Viognier 2006.
The well respected panel of speakers include John Hancock (Trinity Hill Wines), Simon Nunns (Coopers Creek), James Millton (The Millton Vineyard) and Raymond Chan (Regional Wines & Spirits). The workshop has attracted Yalumba’s viticulturist Nigel Blieschke as international guest speaker- Yalumba renowned as one if not the world’s best Viognier producer.
Attendees will be provided with an overview of where the variety is heading in light of the three tastings. Philip Bothwell, Fine Wine & Spirit Development Manager from Pernod Ricard will provide an international and domestic marketing analysis in light of local, national and global marketing issues as well as discussions on how Viognier producers can leverage this to further strengthen the NZ wine brand.
